Will Divorce From a SC Affect the SG PR Status?
2026-02-03

"My husband is a Singaporean citizen and has sponsored me to apply for PR. If we get divorced in the future, will it affect my PR status?"

The answer is, it will not affect.

Generally speaking, after successfully applying for PR, if one resides and works in Singapore for an extended period, their PR status will not be revoked. However, there are exceptions. For instance, engaging in the following behaviors may significantly increase the likelihood of having one's PR status revoked.

Frequent Departure

During the period of holding PR status, if one frequently leaves the country, is absent from Singapore for extended periods, and has no family members in Singapore, there is a high possibility that their PR status may be revoked.

No Contribution

Just holding a PR status without working, buying property, paying taxes, or making significant purchases, and making little contribution to Singapore's development, can also lead to a high risk of cancellation. During the renewal of REP, the ICA will check tax payment records and CPF records.

Material Falsification

Using false materials when applying for or renewing Singapore PR can result in the cancellation of one's status, and in severe cases, imprisonment. As we all know, Singapore is renowned for its strict laws. Once a PR commits a crime and is convicted in Singapore, the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority will re-evaluate their PR eligibility. Such an individual is likely to not only face legal consequences but also lose their PR status.

Interference in Internal Affairs

As the term suggests, those who attempt to interfere in local government affairs will have their PR status revoked, be deported, and even permanently banned from entering the country. In short, remember not to meddle in things that are none of your business, friends!

Refusal to Perform Military Service

According to the Singapore National Service Enlistment Act, all male Singaporean citizens and permanent residents are required to perform compulsory military service, with exemptions only granted to "first-generation immigrants". If a PR who is enlisted refuses to serve, there is a high likelihood that their PR status will be revoked.

However, for ordinary people, the possibility of having their PR cancelled while working and living in Singapore is extremely slim, so everyone can rest assured.
