Once the doctor confirms the death online, the life and death registrar will automatically register the relevant information and issue an electronic notification to the deceased's relatives, notifying them to download the electronic death certificate from the MyLegacy website within 30 days.


Process for Issuing a Death Certificate

1) Doctor online authentication of death and issuance of electronic certificate of cause of death;

2) The system automatically generates a death certificate;

3) Obtain the necessary information for downloading a death certificate from the hospital, such as the death certificate number, etc;

4) Download the electronic death certificate from the MyLegacy website (go. gov. sg/myregacy edc) within 30 days.


Precautions for Downloading Death Certificates

1) After logging into the website, select 'Download Electronic Death Certificate';

2) Input the personal data of the deceased, such as ID card number, death certificate number, etc;

3) Enter the family relationship with the deceased;

4) Click to download and save to personal electronic device;

5) If you need a paper version, just print it out.


How to Notarize/Authenticate a Death Certificate?

A death certificate is an official document issued by the Singapore government department. If it is to be used in other countries, it does not need to be notarized. You can directly apply for an additional certificate from the Singapore Law Society, which is commonly known as Apostille Certification.
