Understanding the Benefits of DP and LTVP
2024-03-27

Are you considering relocating to Singapore for work and wondering about the rights and benefits of bringing your family along? Let's delve into the privileges offered by two essential passes for dependents: Dependant Pass (DP) and Long Term Visit Pass (LTVP).

Dependant Pass (DP)

Choosing the right industry for your EntrePass application is crucial. We have provided detailed insights into which industries are more likely to be approved. Learn more about which industries are easier to apply for an Entrepreneur Pass by clicking here.

Benefits of Dependant Pass (DP)

1. Residency: Holders can reside in Singapore for the duration of the pass and come and go as they please.

2. Work Privileges: Those meeting specific criteria can apply for a Letter of Consent (LOC) to work without the need for a separate work permit. These criteria include being:
a) Asole proprietor of a registered Singaporean company,
b) A partner in such a company, or
c) A director holding at least 30% of the company's shares.

3. Education: Dependent children can directly enroll in schools in Singapore without requiring a separate student pass. However, admission to government schools, except for Primary 1, requires passing the AEIS exam. Priority for government school placement is given to Singaporean citizens, permanent residents, DP holders, and then foreigners.

Long-term Visit Pass (LTVP)

The LTVP, or Long Term Visit Pass, is a visa issued by the Singaporean government that allows individuals to reside in Singapore for an extended period, ranging from six months to ten years.

Currently, there are two approval authorities for the LTVP: the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) and the Ministry of Manpower (MOM). For dependents of EntrePass and Self-Employed Employment Pass holders, the application for LTVP needs to be submitted to the Ministry of Manpower.

Benefits of  Long-term Visit Pass (LTVP)

1. Residency: LTVP holders can stay in Singapore for the duration of their pass.

2. Work Authorization: While LTVP holders cannot work directly in Singapore, they can apply for a LOC to work alongside a valid work pass holder. However, spouses of Singaporean citizens and permanent residents can apply for a work pass regardless of their LTVP status.

3. Duration Tie-in: LTVP validity is linked to the validity of the EP or SP pass.

Understanding these rights and benefits is crucial for individuals considering relocating to Singapore with their families. By navigating the application processes for DP and LTVP, expatriates can enjoy a smooth transition and make the most of their time in SIngapore.
